The Southern Georgian Bay OPP marine patrol unit charged six boaters for failing to have sufficient life jackets on board this past weekend.
Officers checked 52 vessels during 52 hours of patrol on Georgian Bay and Six Mile Lake between June 15 and June 17.
Eight charges were laid, with six people cited for either failing to have sufficient life jackets aboard their vessel or not wearing their new style inflatable personal flotation device.
Officers crewing the OPP patrol vessel Thomas P. Coffin will be checking vessels for proper equipment, life-jackets and for liquor offences throughout the summer. Police are vigorously enforcing these laws in an effort to reduce injuries and fatalities on area waterways.
