Shared: Suspect in Elmvale zoo heist released on bail

A second man arrested and accused in the Elmvale zoo heist was released on bail.

Alex Perlmutter, 21, of Ottawa is permitted to live under the supervision of his ex-girlfriend’s mother, Wendy Perry of Durham Region.

There is a temporary publication ban on the details heard at the bail hearing. Perlmutter and his co-accused, Adrian Frei of Mount Albert, who was previously released on bail, are both facing potential penitentiary sentences.

They are charged with break and enter and theft of a lemur, a baby gibbon monkey and a tortoise from the Elmvale Jungle Zoo.

Police say persons cut through chain-link fences late at night to break into the zoo and stole the animals on May 29. A $10,000 reward was offered and the story…
