Tay Township approved an interim operating budget of $16.5 million and interim capital budget of $22.1 million on Dec. 20.

With this budget, the estimated 2018 municipal portion of property taxes for a home with an average assessment of $201,653 would be $1,384. These taxes are broken down with 34 per cent funding public works, 19 per cent going toward policing, 13 per cent being spent on both general government cost and protection to persons and property, 12 per cent funding parks and recreation, five per cent supporting planning and development and four per cent subsidizing the library.

With growth in assessment estimated at 1.18 per cent, residents will see an average increase of 2.94 per cent on the municipal portion of their property taxes.
