The County of Simcoe added three new electric-vehicle charging stations across the county.

With $267,350 in funding from the provincial government, three Level 3 superchargers were installed at the Simcoe County Museum (1151 Highway 26, Minesing), Washago carpool lot (Highway 11 and Highway 169) and Station Park in Stayner (212 Huron St.).

The chargers are designed to fully charge an average electric vehicle in 30 to 45 minutes.

The county charges a fee of $0.25 per minute of use — a typical 30-minute fill-up would cost $7.50. The fee maintains a revenue-neutral operation.

Over the Canada Day weekend, 20 electric vehicles were charged at the newly installed superchargers, with the Washago location servicing 14 vehicles.
