The cyber-attack, which has knocked out the Town of Midland’s computer systems, was extremely preventable, according to Bill Gordon.
Gordon worked as a technical investigator, computer forensic analyst and managed the IT department for the Midland Police Services for over two decades. He says the hardware the MPS used to prevent cyber-attacks was available to the Town of Midland and they didn’t take advantage of it.
“There were a lot of things we did to save money over the years, but our security wasn’t negotiable,” said Gordon. “We never spared expense on security.”
The MPS had been using two Palo Alto Network security operating platforms to successfully prevent cyber-attacks.
