Yesterday, I questioned the water situation near Site 41. Today, while walking King Street, I was told, by a Site 41 participant, that a logging company was given a permit by the County of Simcoe to clear cut in Tiny Township. I found this strange since Simcoe County had some failed issues with tree cutting in Beeton and ignored the citizens of Beeton and is actively going after AWARE Simcoe to collect court cost when AWARE was only trying get things done right for these New Tecumseth people. In the Beeton Woods situation, a developer, who had an open building application, was given a permit to cut trees and did so, including endangered Butternuts. The abutting property owner in this case was apparently not notified by the County.
The issue here is “who is minding the store and looking out for the citizens”. Regulations exist but obviously the County does not appear to adhere to its own by-laws when issuing cutting permits. Like the water situation, what is the full story behind these apparent oversights on the part of Simcoe County council?
More good questions for Gord McKay, Mike Ross and the Warden Gerry Marshall… if they will speak to any of these issues. They sit on the Simcoe County Council and Marshall leads it.
