A staff report being considered at the General Committee meeting of Council on Monday January 8th 2018 recommends that councillors no longer sit on the following committees:

  1. Midland Public Library Board
  2. Huronia Museum Board
  3. Midland Seniors Council
  4. Midland Cultural Centre Board of Directors
  5. Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors
  6. Property Standards and Fence Viewing Committee

In addition it recommends that the following committees be dissolved before March 31st 2018:

  1. Active Transportation Committee
  2. Buttertart Festival Steering Committee
  3. Snowmobile Advisory Committee

In addition to these changes, there are several more refinements being proposed including that the BIA (Business Improvement Area) board better define its mandate and purposes – which could signal changes to its existence or funding.  This comes on the heels of a letter dated December 7th 2017 where the BIA expresses a desire to expand the boundaries to include the BoatHouse Eatery, Central Marine, Grounded Coffee.  You can see their letter below.

  1. I feel it makes sense to reduce the number of committee meetings our elected representatives attend. It will assist in reducing their respective workload-and perhaps free up the various committees to feel a bit more comfortable during the meeting. perhaps a fail safe procedure for committees to approach the town if need be, or minutes be made available. good move.
