It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Violet Kennedy on Tuesday September 19, 2017.
Vi Kennedy walked through the doors of Askennonia Senior Centre 17 years ago and within weeks, was invited to let her name stand for the Board of Directors. Vi soon became Treasurer and eventually Vice-President. In 2006, Vi moved to the President roll; a position she would fill admirably until 2012. As Past President and more recently, another term as Treasurer, Vi continued to serve Askennonia on the Board of Directors and missed her first meeting in years last Tuesday.
For most of us, that would be an honourable contribution to any organization, but for Vi, that was just the beginning. Vi’s favorite role seemed to be the planning, shopping, cooking and serving of all our luncheons and participation in every special event. Vi and her assistant, Kim and helpers, would prepare for days ahead of our St Patrick’s Day, Veterans Lunches or Christmas Parties, ensuring that up to 300 went home happy and satisfied. Vi could also be found labeling tarts, selling BBQ tickets, receiving tag day boxes and counting the contents, sewing tablecloths, modelling in our Fashion Shows, encouraging others to join in the fun and laughing and smiling the whole time. Vi’s enthusiasm was contagious and has been the catalyst for much of our growth and success over the past decade.
Our condolences to Violet’s husband, Don, her son Jason, daughter-in-law Elena and her grandson. The family is planning a Celebration of Life on October 18, what would have been Vi’s 75th birthday. We will provide more details as they become available.
Vi was loved by so many and will be sorely missed.
